Well got home from Kansas City and the heat to find the neighbor had cut down one of his trees. It was Elm. He asked me if I wanted a piece before son hauled it off to his firewood pile. So here is what I ended up with. Couple of big ones. The one has 6 bowl blanks and the one in the lower right is 16" X 14". I also got one that will be a platter. It is the 3rd picture and is 14" X 14". That one I may have to turn right away cause I don't want it to crack or split. I did anchorseal them all.

Whatever kind of wood it is, that's gonna make some sweet stuff, Bernie. Nice haul.

Great haul Bernie! Thanks for the pics they helped me to know what I was doing wrong with my AnchorSeal. I was coating the whole blank instead of just the ends. Oh well, live and learn.:)

Good to see you are back home from the field :)

You have got to be one of the luckiest rascals around. I never return to the kind of good fortunes you do. How is it some people get all the luck and the rest of us get no luck :D

That is some nice stuff and I know you look forward to making some chips fly.

Thanks for the comments. I like turning Elm. You are right Terry it does have a distint smell about it but does turn really nice. This Elm was pretty dark wood almost the color of walnut. I would definately get some more but his son live about 80 miles from here. The big log he had still laying in his yard I got. Anyway should be some good turning.

Thanks again. Yep the platter one did crack big time on the lathe while turning. I thought I got the pith out but guess I didn't. Super glue or epoxy won't save this one. Oh well I got more.
