I am building a shelf to go in an alcove. It will be 77 inches long by 12 inches deep with a 3 inch apron on the front. It will be supported by brackets on each side and all along the back of the alcove. I will be putting a veneer on the surface and apron to match another table in the room.
I am looking for suggestions on what to use as the substrate for the shelf. I am considering 1 inch MDF but another WWing friend suggested 3/4 birch plywood. What do you suggest?
Also, this is my first veneering project. I do not have access to a vacuum press so will be doing it manually. Any suggestions regarding adhesive and prep would be appreciated.
Thanks -- Kevin
