I got this piece of Holly from Kurt R. in a trade. The picture stinks, I know...:o it's about 6" tall and about 7" wide if I remember right... the foot is Ebony (from Dick Parr) and the collar is ebonized Maple.
Sanded thru 600 and my first shot at a sprayed lacquer finish (5 coats). Not real pleased with the finish (too many dimples to rub out), but am learning...
The wood is whiter than the picture makes it look. I sure wish Keith Burns would get his priorities right and teach me how to take a decent picture...:D
Honest opinions/feedback/suggestions/etc appreciated.

The picture isn't that bad, Mark. But of course it can't compete with the qualitiy of the turning. Excellent work!

It's basically a Jamieson copy. Travis built the D-handle for me that I'm using Scorpion bars in (from Don Pencil). I built the backrest using Dennis' as a guide - I think he used Jamieson's plans for building his. The laser setup is just some pipe with a wooden block Dennis rigged up to hold the laser pointer.
It ain't fancy, but it's functional.

Great............ got any pics :D
Once I fix the lathe stand up, I'm going to build a hollowing rig, bought all the steel today! :)
Cheers!

Travis and Jim both have fancy home-made rigs, so hopefully I can persuade one of them to post pics of their setups.
Travis? Jim? Give it up for a brutha...:D

Honestly Mark, the picture needs some improvement. The shadow on the left is distracting as well as the background color:D Now as far as the HF goes, the form is dead on, the collar is great and the finish is flawless. I know this is just me, but I don't care for the foot. Probably 99% of the people like it so you can throw my opinion in the garbage:) . Bottom line it is a great piece, you've done yourself proud:) :)

Beautimous, Mark! And, I think the finish looks super, as well! If you need any improvement there, it can't be much and I sure can't tell it from here! :)
Also, as a sidenote, any and all exhibits of home-made HF hollowing rigs would be tremendously appreciated by yours truly, as well! :) Finances at this end are currently marginal,:o at best but, I'd really like to get something setup to try HF's once the hand heals up better. :) Specs for material necessary, as well as design may give me a bit of a head start in collecting materials and I think I may be able to talk one of our new neighbors into doing the welding. Thanks! :)

Listen guys, I don't mind sharing pics and info on my tools, but it seems silly for me to do it considering I didn't build much of it at all....:D
I'm gonna hold out for one of the other guys to post pics of what they've got and how they built it. It'll be worth the wait - trust me.
Thanks for all the comments on this piece. Keith, I'm glad you don't like the foot. I think I'll start doing that on all my pieces now....;) :D

Mark for what it's worth (myopionthatis) I like it very much. The contrast's of the foot and the collar are great Love the finish shows off the figure a bit.

I got the foot idea from one of Travis' pieces he posted not too long ago. So he's responsible for Keith not liking this piece...;)
