Turned this from some Maple that Jim Ketron left with me in April. Found a little curl in the blank that was tough to get a good pic of. I shaped the opening into a collar profile, then burned the rim detail with my branding pen. 10" diameter by 7" tall, buffed gel poly finish.

That's a beauty Travis! So the collar is the same wood as the rest of the piece, just burned? You did a beautiful job of texturing it too.

Curt, yes, it's one piece. It was sanded along with the rest of the turning, then burned. The burning tip did the texturing.

That's very cool, Travis. I really like the collar treatment. I guess you're proof not all the great turners are from down south. ;) :)

Great looking piece Travis, the burn on the rim is super and the figure of the wood is just awsome.

First of all, I'll tell you guys that they don't come any more "Southern" than Travis... and I live in Arkansas!!! :D

Travis, this is another great piece. The collar and rim treatment just shows more of your imagination and "vision" for making a piece look special.

This is a great piece of wood, and a great piece.

The contrast makes it even more beautiful. I think the use of the branding iron gave it a different look which I also appreciate.

Thanks everyone (Even you, Vaughn :p ).
Mark, the bottom is nothing special, just a concave spot.
