I'm looking to purchase the Porter Cable full head nailer (FR350A) and am looking for the best price. Amazon prices seem kind of steep on this model. Anybody have other recommendations for places to try. I always like purchasing things locally but my local sources only carry the clipped head version even though they do carry full head nails.

Thanks,
Wes Billups

The Mag version, $259:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004WGQK/qid=1153414586/sr=1-8/ref=sr_1_8/103-9429181-2090267?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=hi&v=glance&n=228013

The regular version, $259:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000B3AR9/qid=1153414586/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/103-9429181-2090267?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=hi&v=glance&n=228013

The clipped head version, $219:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000B3ARA/qid=1153414586/sr=1-18/ref=sr_1_18/103-9429181-2090267?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=hi&v=glance&n=228013

The reconditioned version, $149.95 (a best buy in my opinion):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C5QL7O/qid=1153414826/sr=1-25/ref=sr_1_25/103-9429181-2090267?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=hi&v=glance&n=228013

This is a very reputable reconditioning company. No troubles.

The reconditioned, clipped head version, $149.95:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C5MN80/qid=1153414826/sr=1-30/ref=sr_1_30/103-9429181-2090267?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=hi&v=glance&n=228013

I would recommend that you click on the secondary "New and Used" section of the above pages as well. Looks like some good deals there.

And here is a page with a few other choices:

Wes, since you are in Marysville, try The Andersons in Columbus. I got mine at The Anderson's in Toledo a few years ago. While you are there you can buy great meat, fresh vegtables, hundreds of beers and wines, and a Unisaw. Its one of my favorite places to shop and it is an Ohio company.

What's the difference between the clipped head and the round head, that would make you steer away from the clipped head?

If I may Craig, in some localities, the clip head nails are not code compliant. Also, if the area/material to be nailed off is exposed, the clip head nails look a little funny as well.

Thanks Mark, just curious as I recently framed an entire house using clipped heads and the subject never came up.
BTW, I just purchased a Bostich framer from Amazon for 124 and change, free shipped. Like half price, couldn't pass it up. (clipped head)

Craig, I think in areas where you are subject to hurricanes and earth quakes the codes now require full round heads for the little extra holding power.

I often visit all my pawn shops on the way home from work. Nailing hammers are by far the most abundant tools I see. Some great prices too.

Thanks for everyone's responses. I'll check a couple more local places and then may go with Amazon if the difference is too great.

Matt, I will check Anderson's. I'd never heard of it but have only been in Marysville a few months so there are quite a few places I have not heard of.

Mark got it exactly right in that I'm looking for a nailer I could do decking, fencing, siding, as well as framing with. Thus I want the full head as it isn't much more and from what I've seen the nails are the exact same price.

Thanks,
Wes Billups

I was in home depot the other day and they had the nail gun / compressor combo on sale for 200+.

Wes, I just saw this at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000B3AR9/qid=1153679001/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/103-9429181-2090267?%5Fencoding=UTF8&s=hi&v=glance&n=228013

If you've already purchased this exact nailer from Amazon then they will do a price difference refund. You just have to call CS and ask them.

This is on a "Weekend Sale". I'm not sure how long Amazon's "Weekend" is but sometimes it lasts through Monday.

EDIT: Ooh ooh ooh, and this one too.........

Mark, thanks for the response. I saw this last night and ordered it this morning. Nearly bought a clipped head reconditioned model yesterday and held off as I really wanted the full head. Glad I waited.

Washington State, or at least King County, requires full head nails.

Also check out Coastal Tool in Hartford. Very nice folks and generally good prices on pneumatics.

Far be it for me to correct you Jim, but he wanted a new framing nail gun, not a pneu-matic.
