Finials & Collars....

Can some one cover the process for adding a finial and a collar to a vase or box lid etc. Not so much the turning of one or how to turn one ( but would love any insight on that as well) but more on the process for attaching them to the lid or vase etc. Thanks as always. Seem like this would be a good tuturial project :)
