I wanted to make a gift for my brother and sister in-law who will be hosting us for a week later this summer. I finally came up with the idea of a small clock.

The clock is mahogany and measures about 9" wide by 5" high by 1-3/4" deep. The wood is actually some cutoffs left over from the mahogany buffet I built them as a wedding gift about this time last year. The finish is orange shellac with severa several drops of brown mahogany Transtint dye to darken it a little. I then finished with a couple coats of wax applied with 0000 steel wool. The clock insert is from Rockler. Now I have to make one each for LOML and LOML jr.

Nice clock Matt! Simple, but elegant; finish is great. I'm sure they will love it.

I really like the color and finish on that mahogany. Thanks for posting it. When it comes time to make some Christmas gifts... I'll have to remember this clock idea.

Looking good Matt
