Walnut with an ebonized cherry collar. It's 4.5" x 8.25" and finished with six coats of lacquer. The walls are about 1/8 ", and I left the bottom about 1/2" for stability. I sanded pretty hard between coats and then buffed. Thanks for looking.

Looks really nice, Ernie. The form is smooth and flowing, and the collar fits the piece very nicely.

Man, all the heavy hitters are showing off their stuff this evening. How am I supposed to be getting any of my office work done?

Very nice HF, Ernie. I really like the form, and the finish looks killer. Very well done.

Holy cats, Ernie! That's outstanding!!! :D I've always found Walnut to be a tough one to get nice and smooth but, looks like you've got it down! Beautiful! :) What are you using for hollowing it out??? HF's are on my agenda to learn once this hand gets better and I'll take any/all tips on equipment! :)

John, I am using a Sorby Hollowmaster. It has been something to get used to, but I'm getting there. I actually got it sorta smooth inside. I still plan on building something similar to the Ketron rig though.

Love that Walnut, Ernie! Nice HF for sure!

Like the collar, too. How'd you ebonize it?

How'd you ebonize it?

I use an ink. Can't think of what it's called right now, but it comes in a little screw cap bottle and is found in the art department of walmart, Michaels, etc. It dries real fast and you can spray it with lacquer in just a few minutes. Lacquer doesn't make it run either.
