Here is an ambrosia maple crotch hollow form I found in our neighbor hood, it finished out to 12-1/2" x 5-1/2". I used watco and beall buff for the finish and the collar is cherry.

The HF has a bit of everything in it. Ambrosia markings, Curl, Birdseye and a Big feather on the bottom.

Thanks for looking.

Incredible work Dick! After you got into this piece did you wish you had turned it where the bottom was the top instead? That's some magnificent grain in the bottom half of the piece, not that the top is not great, but that bottom is fantastic.

We're going to have to raise the "Parr for the course", if you keep up this quality of fine workmanship and quality of Woodpile Diving.

Great lookin' piece.

Got a awful lot going on in that wood you did an awsome job of letting it out Dick. That feather on the bottom looks almost like a flame I really like it.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments. This is one of my favorite pieces that I have done so far.

Chris I did think about putting the feather on the top but then decided to put it on the bottom for the WOW factor when people turn it over. I used the dome top to show off just a little bit of the Feather along with the Curl, Birdseye and Ambrosia Markings. The three people that have been over to look at it showed me the reaction I was looking for.

Thanks again everyone.

Dick you do come up with beautiful pieces and this is no exception. Tell me is ambrosia a type of maple or does it have something to do with that figure in the wood?

You sure are right about that piece of wood having a bit of everything in it. Great job on a tricky piece of wood. You handled it masterfully.
