The Gazabo project continues to unfold.

We've selected a set of plans and now have material estimates from a few suppliers.

What I'm curious about is the type of screws to use w/ cedar. Is there something I should know?

Thanks

When installing cedar siding stainless nails are used to keep from staining the wood. So I would go with stainless.

Stainless, brass or bronze (in increasing order of cost). Not only to avoid staining but also for longevity.

I would also recommend drilling pilot holes. The cedar is soft enough to drive withou them but will split pretty easy if you don't.

I have built lots of decks, fences etc in cedar and the galvanized or ceramic coated deck screws are fine. Brass or bronze might leave a black streak below over time. Are the fasteners going to be visible everywhere? If so I would use SS screws and galv where not visible. They are readily available and come in all lengths. You can always plug the holes where visible. I agree with the pre-drill suggestion too. Just MHO, good luck.
