I received this hunk of Coolibah from my (and ours) good friend John Hart awhile back and finally worked up the nerve to turn it. It was the hardest wood I have ever seen. It was like concrete. Took probably 3 hours on the outside. Started on the inside and was about to give up and then remembered my captive hollowing rig. It made quick work of it. No finish applied just Beall buffed. It measures 7" diameter x 3-1/2" tall with the wall at 3/16". As always thanks for looking and your comments are welcome.

Very nice Keith. That wood is really special. I don't suppose it was in one of John's grab bags.;)

Sure is nice, Keith.

Sapwood kinda looks like a piece of crumbly yellow quartz; and the edge makes me think of an ancient asteroid. All rocky stuff - maybe that explains why it was so difficult to turn.

Keith, that is just superb. One of the grandest NE's I have seen here. The finish looks more than buffing compounds. Way to go Keith!

First let me say that is just one of the best NE's I've seen. Not having used a Captive Hollowing Rig can you tell me why it was so much easier with it? My list of must haves keeps growing. Brian

Thanks for all the kind comments guys ! Chris, yes I used the vacuum chuck the finish the bottom. Brian, the captive rig allowed me to do the inside without beating myself to death. I honestly would had given up with my bowl gouge as this wood was more like chipping concrete instead of turning wood.
