There is nothing new under the sun.
I just discovered that there is a quick release for my blade tension on my 1950's model Craftsman band-saw. At the top of the column just under & behind the top wheel there is a lever to pull down. Unless you tilt your head just right with the front cover off you would never notice it. But once you find it its easy to stick your finger up between the cover & the lever & pull it down to release or push it up to tighten the blade.
