which is the best corner (right angle) clamp for gluing cabinets?
Thanks

Woodpecker has a pretty nice set-up.

Tom,

I don't know if I'll say these are the best, but for price and functionality I think they're pretty good. This is what I bought:

Just make some squares from plywood scraps and drill some holes along each edge big enough for your clamp heads. Cheap

Take a look at the 6" clamping square (http://www.woodpeck.com/clampingsquare6.html)from the folks at Woodpecker. I have four of them and, hands down, beat anything else I have tried/used. :) The square is machined from a single block of aluminum 6x1x3/4 inches.

I agree, Ken... The WoodPeck squaring clamps are not cheap, but they're dead on and smooth! I wish they didn't have rounded edges. That'd make them a little more useful for things like jointer fence alignment (where you're looking to make sure the clamp edge is contacting another surface, but the rounded edge makes it hard to tell). But hey... that'd be a bonus... since that's not what they're really made to do.

I also have some of these: http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/11438

And mine are not dead-on square.

I really like the Incra model you're talking about, though.

Shop made. Hands down shop made clamps are best.

I made plywood triangles like Brian mentions. I thought they's just get me through a project or two but a year later I still use them.

tom, another option to consider is using a finish nailer to fasten the panel corners together, adjust the joint slightly with a dead blow mallet and then drive some assembly screws through the sides - this works best if the outer sides of the cabinets are not exposed.

They've got a fast Acme screw, adjust for varying thicknesses to be held together and they pull together accurately without fiddling.

I tried the Jorgensons but they took way too much fiddling for my tastes.

I've also used speed squares and small F-clamps but that tied them up in other functions.

The Besseys are expensive but well worth it in my opinion bevause they leave your other clamps free rather than the corner brakets.

My 2C.

I use shop made of several different sizes. They can even be tacked into place if for some reason clamps won't work. It's a good way for us wood misers to use valuable (scrap) wood.
