View Full Version : Hammering SawMill Blades

Needs Help ? Do anyone know how to hammer a saw mill blade straight. There was a eldery man in my town who used to do it but he is gone now.... I have a home made sawmill with a 28 inch blade that wabbles realy bad it needs to be hammered out bad. Can anyone tell me how to do it. I dont mind taking the time to try and try again Thanks max

Yes. Though it's been over 30 years. It's not that hard so long as you are willing to be patient.
the goal is simple Get the blade into a slightly dished shape. Try hard to make it dead even - not entirely possible but with practice you get pretty good

You use a wood hammer and a stump. The stump you will have pounded into a ever so slightly dish shaped bowl. No I am not joking a wooden mallet and a stump.
The guy who showed me had a couple different stump ends of logs he used for different saws he'd service in the area.

Then when the saw powers up it literally slings the blade straight and true.
This only worlks for very large blades like those 36" or larger in diameter.

Got a friend in south missouri that does that.
