Here is my version of the Skewchigouge. I used some curly Ambrosia Maple scrap from the bowl cut offs for the handles.
I used Travis Skewchigouge and just had to make a few!
Here is 2 of the 3 I will be making, they are 1/2" and 3/8" I still have one 1/4" one to Finish with the piece of drill rod that Dick Gave me.
Worked great on the Birdhouse spindle I made a few days ago!

Those are sweet! I have thought about buying one of those or the spindlemaster. Nice handles!

Corey you can make them for about $2 a gouge!
Find you some drill rod and make your handle, use copper pipe for the Ferrel.

Now those are eye catchers. What does the tip look like from the front. Or if there is already pics just point me to who posted them and I'll search.

Nice looking tools Jim a question if you don't mind. How critical is the sweep on the tip and the sharpening angle

Jim,
How'd you shape those initially? Grind the bevel first then flatten the
top right on the grinding wheel? Then for sharpening,,,do you touch the bevel up or touch up the flat flute/top ? and for the last of my 20 questions. ..where can we buy drill rod?
Thanks in Advance - Jeff

MacMaster Carr has it in many sizes from 1/16" - 3" diameters, 6",12" and 36" lengths. a Piece 1/2" x 12 " is listed for $4.19 hmmm might have to order some..:D

Real neat Jim!

The only problem I see is that your tool handles are nicer than most of what I make on purpose.

Let us know how they work.

Travis Told me to hold the drill rod straight up from the grinding wheel and grind the flat part first. then I roughly shaped the the bevel then finished it up with my homemade Vari Grind jig. you can see some good shots of the profiles on the Woodcraft site just search for Skewchigouge and just click on enhanced image to get a good look.

After the ParrBQ I made a skewchigouge from some M2 HSS drill rod that Dick gave me. My skewchigouge is not as pretty as Jimbo's. Here are some closer up pictures of the grind.... Sorry I don't know what the grind angle is, I guesstimated it...

Hey Jim,
I make my ferrules out of 3/4" copper caps. They work fine!
