If there's sufficient interest, any chance that the seasoned neanderpeoples, like Harry e.t al., would like to lead a SMC-NH online neader project/class for us newbies?

There is sufficient interest by this galoot-in-training.

Now that is an interesting idea, as long as it was simple to keep it within my skill level.

Thanks Harry. Although 144 folks viewed the post, looks like Brian Kent & I are your first two galoots-in-training.

How would you like to proceed?

Galoots in training, that's a good one.

How about starting out with a saw table, (old time sawhorse). Simple to make, just marking, sawing and dovetailing and some drilling and using a hand router.

would end up with something you can use.

A sawhorse sounds like a fine idea. I like the idea of a group project.

Of course, my saw horse may have to wait for my shaving horse to finish....

Okay, maybe I'll learn this neander term in the first class but, why do you shave a horse?

Ha, well, you don't. It's a little horsie for you to sit on while you're using a spokeshave.

Like so:

Useful for curved work or irregularly-shaped pieces. Used pretty much instead of a workbench for most chairmaking.

That is really nice and I would love to build it. I have to finish building my tool cabinet and resolve my workbench problem which is not having a workbench.

I'm sorry Deidre, I actually DO know what it is. I was just making another feeble attempt at the only thing I'm semi-good at.....4th grade humor.......:D

But you are very kind to indulge me, thank you. ;)

you wouldn't have to ask me twice, although I admit I am a very visual learner and text doesn't sink too deep in my thick skull.

I was thinking the same thing Chuck I have a hunk of old wany edge white ash that would be perfect for it.

I liked the bit in the article when he said you need to go back to the shop and get your 18 inch Starret ruler, or use a walnut stick. I believe he was talking about the height of the saw horse I just forget rightr now. Anyway it made me laugh when I read it and I still smile when I think of it.
