I finally got back to the lathe. I made this pen for my daughter that is turning 14 this month. It is Bois D'arc with a high gloss Crystal Coat finish.

Bodark, Osage Orange and a/k/a many other names, is very hard stuff. Some folks don't like to turn or work it. I enjoy turning it. To me, there are woods that are "hard" and others that are "difficult". OO is not difficult. I sell OO pen blanks and they are quite popular. The color can be great and the wood finishes nicely.

Nice pen Jeff, I like the style and use it on some of mine as well never worked with the wood but may have to change that.

As long as your tools are sharp you will have no problems. And it sands very good. I've seen a few bowls made from it and they are beautiful.

Be advised, can take forever and a few days to dry.
