Well a week ago I did my first box. Here is number 3. I am enjoying these boxes for sure. Don't know why I waited so long to try it. Anyway.. this one is 1 7/8 inches in diameter and 3 1/4 inches tall. Spalted ash which I found in my bin and didn't realize it was spalted at first. Not heavily but adds some character. Finished in home brew tung oil varnish. Oh yeah, I almost forgot as this is the one I got the lid stuck on and had to make a call for help! I still ended up with a nice suction pop lid. This one is definitely Mike Stafford inspired! Thanks for looking.

Way to go Corey! Nice lidded box! So far.........I think I enjoy boxes the most though I have to admit.....when I find some local woods...I can't wait to try my hand at some more NEs! Keep those boxes and photos coming!

You'll feel the same way about bowls once you give em a try. Still time to enter the NE contest........

That is beautiful Corey, really great job. That light spalt does spice up the ash.

Excellent Corey. I like the box and the finish a lot...One tool I have in my turning repertoire that is most unusual is an old thin bladed filet knife. I use it to insert at the join between the lid and the body of a box that has a lid that is a smidgeon too tight.... Allows me to remove the lid and make the necessary adjustments....;)

Thanks all I appreciate it. Mike.... I guess I was close.. I used the skew to do just what you say. Good idea too as I happen to have a couple filet knives laying around here :) Glad to hear newbs aren't the only one to do that!

Nive one Corey. I couldn't tell where division for the lid was until you took it off in that fourth pic.
