I rounded the ends off instead of leaving the chainsaw marks (sometimes you feel like a nut... sometimes you don't). The first is 12"x 2.25" and the 2nd is 10"x 2". Finished to 600, lacquer, and buffed. So, what do you think about round... loaded question:D . Thanks for looking.

Very nice Ernie! Man whenever I see these winged bowls like this I just imagine those wicked forms spinning on the lathe! This is great and some beautiful mesquite Ernie. Nice job.

Excellent!! I like round but could you do another pair and leave the chain saw marks so we can compare?:D

These are amazing Ernie. Outstanding job on both.

Wow Ernie, those are both beauts. I also fear irregularly shaped blocks of spinning finger smashing death but when they come out looking like this it makes it all worth while.:D

Gorgeous, Ernie.

Quick question: In your opinion, does spinning one of these propellers present greater, lesser, or equal amounts of flesh-removing potential as doing an NE bowl?

Henry, not really in that I have made it a habit from the beginning to not get any part of me past the tool rest.:D For sanding, I only sand the inside and outside of the bowl while it is spinning, and I do that at a very low rpm. The wings, I power sand with the spindle locked.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Ernie

My wife hates this style of bowl. I on the otherhand think they are very neat and one day I am going to make one just to get under her skin.:D I like your bowl, the Mesquite has such a rich color. Nice job on your "propeller".

Beautiful! I love the way you sloped off near the edge to get rid of the saw marks. Great grain and nice job of fininshing.

Super bowls Ernie, I have a crotch or two in my pile that I cut and sealed this weekend but will have to hone my skills for a while to achieve such results. Not to mention that I can not spin something quite that size.
