Any one own the Grizzly G1140 or G1531? I like the look of these because they seem compact and one is even bench top (light enough to be portable?). Just wondering how they prform for sanding door, drawer edges. I'm not looking to spend a fortune for oscillating (yet) and I think a tool like this could replace my sanding station so it might be a nice trade, little larger tool but way more capable. Any thoughts?

Ben,

I have had the G0512 for a couple years now. It's a different table but basically the same sanding head as the ones you mentioned. I love it. Would hate to be without it. I do lots of inset drawers and doors and it is great for that final fit. I actually use it on just about every project. Very handy to have but even the bench top model is probably a little too heavy to truly be portable.

I have the 1531, purchased from a friend. Spend the extra money and get the 1140. Like Terry said, it's to heavy to move. I find it very useful, much more than a combo, disc and belt, machine.
I haven't had good luck with Grizzly's belts, and would suggest you find them elsewhere. The seams thonk every time they come around.

I've got the Bridgewood 6x89 floor model and it's real handy for a lot of different tasks; rounding corners, fine tuning beveled ends, even grinding a nick out of chisels or putting a new angle on plane irons.

I don't think i'd like a benchtop model, workbench area is always limited.

Klingspor belts perform real well with no seam "bump"

I have a 1531 and I could not agree more with Richard. Griz belts are not very good and the 1531 uses 6x80 when most of the industry in this range use 6x89. If I were to do it over, I would buy Jet.

That said, I really like an edge sander and this one works fine, just the belts are bumpy.
