This piece is purely a product of the knowledge I've received here on SMC....I want to thank you all for a wealth of good information.

The top is a shy 5/4 , legs are a smidge under 6/4, and the rest 3/4.

All surfaces are handplaned. The beading was cut with a LN #66 beading tool - It was a lot of fun to cut the beads!!!

The dovetails are hand cut with HB's on the front and Thru-dt's on the back of the drawer.

(My apologies to Alan Turner as the drawer bottom is 1/4 ply......but Alan, I promise to replace with solid wood later!!!!:) this is absolutely temporary... )

Joinery is loose tenons on the main stretchers, tiny double tenons on the smaller rails in front and lower sides, and a long "floating tenon" connecting the Lower BE Maple shelf to the Cherry sides (glued only in the center).

I have many creekers to thank as I had questions for them during this project - Geographically they are:
A Laguna Beach Local
A Cheesehead ouside Sweet Springs, WI
A Minister in Hanford, CA
Some Minimax gurus in Austin
A FAA man in Cleveland, OH
A Lawyer in Philly..........
I hope I haven't left anyone out.... :o

And now, for the picture police, a bunch of photos!

Great job, Roy. Love the contrast between the cherry and maple - not too much but noticable. Like the drawer pull. Good design and execution.

Roy, the only one to thank for this exceptional piece will be you and, that will be done by generations who come after you! :) I've had the extreme pleasure of seeing much of the WIP on this piece and can only say that Roy has left nothing to chance and has been absolutely meticulous in its execution. :) My friend, it truly shows!!!! :D Wonderful job on what will become an instant heirloom in the Wall family! :)

You guys are very gracious....makes me feel good....thanks!!!

Some of you inquired about dimensions (Sorry I left them out:confused: )

Top - 18.5 x 15.5 x 1

Base section is 17 deep x 13.5 wide

Drawer - 14 deep x 10.25 wide x 3.5 high

Leg taper is 8" up from bottom and makes a 3/4" square foot.

Total height is 25", so it is a certainly a "petite piece" - a nice little table to fit just about anywhere - bedside, chairside, etc..

I made it for my Daughter (7 yrs old).

Roy,
Excellent work and very nice design! This is a great project that requires a lot of skill and you have a lot of that! I may have tried to answer a question or two along the way....but you really created a masterpiece and it really shows!

Roy...that is a beauty! And the photography gets an A+ too!

I am in the middle of making my first piece. it is a smaller shaker style table made of cherry and is similar to the size of your masterpiece. This past weekend I made the mortises (forstner bit and hand chisel) and tapered each leg on the two inside faces. So far, so good. I have a drawer that will have dovetail joinery as well as dovetails joining the top and bottom apron (above and below the drawer) to the front legs. This will be challenging, to say the least, and a bit ambitious, but I look forward to it.

Could you share your sanding and finishing schedule?

Thanks for sharing!
Matt

Roy,

Sorry for not catching this post. I wish I had more time to spend on SMC. Regardless, I'm glad to see that your table turned out so well. Excellent job all the way around. My question is, did you fuss with those dovetails or did you do it per DVD and do it first-fit-best-fit? :D

The contrast of the cherry and b.e. maple is perfect. Excellent! I'm sure it was very satisfying.

And not bad photo's. Do you know someone in the business? :D ;)

Hey Jason -- good to have you back!!! You have been TOO busy lately....probably too hot in the Garage SHop anyway - it has been here in KC also!!!

I did "fuss" the front HB DT's to fit..... ....too chicken to try and cut them per master guru Rob Cosman. The rear thru DT's I think I could have "forced"...(  ) together - but I pared them a little also. At least I knew how to "error" so I could pare back to fit!

It's amazing how some glue, plane work, and finish will fill in most all the errors...:o :)

I'm afraid that it may be some time before I can split the scribe marks with the saw and fit per DVD!!! -- but I'll keep trying!:D
