Funky lookin' piece of Hackberry from an old crotch that has been sittin' in my shop floor for a while. It had checked real bad, so just chucked it up to see what I could salvage. It warped a little around the rim as I was turning it. This thin-walled bowl is about 9" wide and about 2-1/2" tall... walls are 1/8" or less... sanded thru 600 and Watco finish.

All comments/feedback appreciated.

That's interesting, Mark. When my Hackberry spalts, it's green or black.

You did a wonderful job on that "Junk" wood. Just goes to show you - You can never tell what you'll get till you get after it!

You turned Andy???

Sorry, couldn't resist. That's a fine looking bowl. Great color and I like the smattering of worm holes!

Barry, it was easy to see that it wasn't Andy, no Moxie logo:D

Mark,
Only one with your skills in turning could deal with unpredictable wood movement and achieve that difficult thin walled form.

To me, the undulating rim of this bowl expresses the ongoing life of a tree. That you were instrumental in bringing this about is laudable.

Very, very nice piece there Mark. Maybe I'll get to draw your number in another give away and get one of these babies in my collection. :D

Okay - time to come clean....:D

I have a bowl in my collection that inspired the shape on this one. It's a fine Myrtle bowl I got from Travis in a gift exchange a while back. It is even better in person than it is in this picture!

Mark I really like your bowl. I have a question. Are those worm holes in the side? The reason I ask is that I haven't known what to do with some I've had. It looks like you just left them and it didn't seem to hurt the piece.

Yes, they are worm holes. I just blew 'em out with some high pressure air and left as-is. I thought about filling them with some epoxy, but decided to just leave 'em. The small knot holes are also open, so they have some company....:D
