Nice job Laurie. I was thinking of turning some palm but heard it is hard to do. Great looking pen.

Wow, that's one nice looking pen! I've turned plam once as my first bottle topper and didn't enjoy turning it much, it was fairly difficult. Looking at your pen makes me want to take another stab at it.

Laurie,

I've turned palm a couple of times, and yes it is tough stuff to work, sometimes it just comes off in splinters. Found the best way was to turn it with a skew. The bevel cut seems to work best.

Your pen came out as a beauty ! Very nice !

...especially because of the grain direction. I really like the unique look of the palm. Nice, nice work!

Hard for me to imagine palm being hard. I cut a palm tree down for a neighbor years ago that was about 12 inch diameter and my first hit with the ax went about three quarters through. Very wet, stringy wood. two chops and it was down.

Really nice looking pen. I'd say worth the effort. Way to hang in there.
