This is a vase made from ash. The outside was dyed with yellow and red TransTint dye in water. The inside was dyed with TransTint black. The lip is covered with imitation gold leaf that was treated with sulfurated potash to create an aged look.

The vase was turned on center for the base, then off center (3 centers) for the sides, and then on center for the top and inside. Critiques welcome.

Beautiful John! Thanks for the details on making it! Gives us newbies something to consider! I recently got to attend a turning exhibition at a museum. Your details explain "the how" of some of turnings I saw displayed there! Thanks again!

John,

That is very cool. I love the color combination, it's very creative.

Thanks for the how to. I'll have to try something like this out in the not too distant future.

Way, WAY neat, John! :) Normally, I'm a sucker for natural wood tones but, this is most certainly an exception. The faux gold leaf gives it an almost ancient Rome kinda' feel to it. Me likes!!! :)

Nice piece John. The red, gold and black are great. I like it a lot.

I've been wanting to do one of those since I saw a demo a while back but haven't gotten a round tuit. I might just have to put a plan into action now.

That is just kewl. Alot of different stuff going on here with the dye work, gold leaf, off center turning etc. Very nice!

Excellent vase, John. Great work, from the design to the execution. To the uninitiated, the simple lines and form give no hint of the advanced techniques invloved in producing the piece. Very well done.

Amazing piece John! Its already been said, but, as a rookie, I'm sure there was a whole bunch "done" that I am clueless about. The final product is awesome.

Very interesting design, John.

While the Died wood is striking, personally, I prefer the natural wood color.

I don't mean to detract from what you accomplished, just different ideas from different people................that's why they have horse races.
