Does anyone know of a good website to download furniture plans. I've tryed rockler.com, grizzly.com, furnitureplans.com, but most of the stuff is pretty cheap looking. Any advice would help.

Like all things, it depends on what you are looking for. What do you want plans of? I have only purchased plans once and then didn't use them. I have found that it works better for me to see a finished piece and them draw my own plans.

I have used plans from Carlyle Lynch. The drawings are very good but the intructions are weak. If you don't need step by step they are worth it.

The best plans are the ones you draw yourself, for no other reason that by the time you figure out out to draw it, you understand how to put it together. Spend some time in museums and high end galleries--imitating so so stuff from furniture stores is a sure way to mediocre design since manufacturers do lots of things to fascilitate production that aren't necessary for individual craftsmen. Things like having rails flush with legs on tables and chairs--factories use a reveal so errors don't show up. A home craftsman can just flush the joint with a few strokes of a plane or sander.

Here are some I have used. Also wood mag. site has plans. There are a lot of books of plans if we know what you want to build.

I get my plans from magazines and books but if you want to purchase some free plans try this.
