Evolving a Dovetail Plane

I have uploaded an article on how the construction developed for the dovetail plane I made several months ago (mainly because Michael kept nagging me so! :) ). I hope the information is useful in building one for yourself.

Feel free to offer your comments, be they about design alternatives or advice on construction. There are some who have made very similar versions (as will be evident from my comments in the opening paragraphs of the article). Please do post them here if you are able.

Derek,

I was looking at this earlier on WK Fine Tools. I have to admit to having Steve Knight make me a dovetail plane, but I do admire the work you've done to create your own, simply marvelous.

Great article as usual. Thank for sharing!:)

Hi Alan

Steve's plane leaves mine for dust! If it were not so expensive to ship one across the Pond I would have bought one from him like a shot. I am very envious.

Hey Derek, that's a great article. I love to see an old twisted plane put back into service.

Looking forward to part two.

I wouldn't sell yourself short...got to be modest of course.....but, even though I don't know about Steve's plane in its entirety, I'm pretty shore your left-handed plane slices with the grain to leave an excellent finish.
