Here is another pic of my kayak. It is built primarily of western red cedar. The cedar all started as 2X lumber. when I buoght the lumber the yard had a pallet on clear 2X2's intended for railing posts and I spotted a few which were very dark in color. This lumber was used for accent and sheer strips. All the cedar was resawed to 5/16", planed to 1/4", and then sawed in half to give me 1/4" X 3/4" strips. The strips were then run through the router tabel twice to give me cove and bead strips.
The bow and stern are reinforced with three laminations of 1/8" white oak and the coaming lip around the cockpit is made of laminations of 1/8" ash. The coaming riser is made of alternating lite and dark cedar strips.
