Finally got all the glassing done on the Kayak. A friend who owns an auto body shop is going to clear coat it for me but won't be abel to do it till next week. Decided to launch her this AM at a local pond. Took a couple rides and LOML had one. Stability is good as the wind was fairly strong and neather of us tipped her. Now I think it is time to add on to my shop so I can build another and still be abel to use all my tools.http://www.sawmillcreek.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=41867&stc=1&d=1151781933

Beautiful boat there David, very well done! Wished there was more water around here to play on, I'd love to build something like that.

All right David. Great job on the boat. It looks fantastic.

Now how about that bottle of champaign over the bow to properly christen her.

Looks good, Dave. Heck of an accomplishment, and it must feel good having it finished. If possible, can you post some bigger pics so we can see more details and the wood? If you're having trouble getting the file sizes down yet keeping the picture real estate big, drop me a PM...I'd be glad to help out. It'd be worth a bit of extra effort to see such a cool project a bit more clearly.

That is a Truly Beautiful Job, David. I know you're going to have a LOT of ?FUN using it too.

I Envy you folks that can SIT in one of those though. I can just imagine what it would do to my Back, sitting in that position, I know I'd at least get a Major leg cramp, and probably kick at least a dozen glue joints loose:eek: and maybe do a couple of those Eskimo Rolls trying to get the leg straightened out.:rolleyes: The sight would probably make a good Cartoon Movie though.:D

You're right though, Build More Shop. Shop space is like clamps, you can never have too much or too many.:D

Thanks for all the kind words.

Skip;
I'd estimate the total cost with clear coating will come in at around $600.00.

As far as time, I have no idea. Started the project around the middle of FEB.

Lookin good David! I'm going to start working on mine this fall. Kayaking is one of the best things in the world to do. (For me at least.) I enjoy it immensely. Can't wait to see the pictures after the clear coat.

Any idea of the BF you used? I had forgotten about this but I have a very clear 2 x 12(?) Western Red Cedar beam. I drug it back up the house with something else in mind. Kept looking at it and realized this could/would be good for strips. Plus I have a couple of 4 x 4 post too. Just might have enough wood to strip a boat.

Jeff. The kayak I built used about 1100 linear feet of strips. The strips are 3/4"x 1/4". I cut my strips with a band saw which wastes less wood than a table saw.
