I bought the M12V about 6 months ago and have been absolutely enjoyed by its performance in my router table.

So, I thought I'd give Hitachi another chance since all went good with the M12V. I bought the very cheap KM12SC 2-1/4hp router for a little over $100 and couldn't be more happy. Granted, it's rated at 2.25 HP, but it works like my neighbor's 1 3/4 HP PC router but better balance IMO.

It's not variable speed. But it comes with 6 different bushings and clear bases. For $105 on Amazon (sale price) it's just way too good to pass up for those who need a router full-time out of the table.

John,

I am glad to hear that you like the router because I ordered the one like yours but with variable speed. It ran about $102 with the discount and free shipping. Will have to wait a while as they are out of stock. I am not in a big hurry and needed it for a dedicated dovetail router to go with my Milwaukee 5615. I have never used a Hitachi tool before but thought that they were so ugly that they must run good to sell any. It is going to be interesting to see how it compares. I expect it to have about the same power level as the 5615 rated at 1 3/4 just like you said about compareing it to the PC.

I came real close to getting the Ridgid but for $100+ more decided against it as I already have a DW621 for plunging.

Well, they are not as ugly in person as the pictures make them look. But I just can't complain. I had a Craftsman 1.75 HP router that I killed in about 1 year. I'm hoping this will do better. I like the soft start (like the M12V), and I like the clear base. It's just a no brainer if this router works out in the end.....

So far, so good.. The router rolled through some cuts but nothing I wouldn't assume would give any router a problem. I just am excited about all the extras in terms of bushings and power you get from a router so cheaply priced. I have been burned in the past by cheapo products.......so I'm ready to see what Hitachi can give me for such a nice price + the plunger base. I know that the plunge base sticks more "out of the box" compared to the PC (etc) equivalent...but I can deal quite easily with that.......
