I am getting ready to install and ac unit in the garage. I have a metal garage door that will need insulation. I was thinking of cutting the foam sheets and placing them in each panel. Any other ideas?

Rigid foam is the way to go, Steve. What kind of garage door is it? Sectional? One-piece? Other? Pics might help, too.

Wow, an air conditioned garage, way to go.

It's the shop also. Not just to keep the cars cool but now that you mention it..... Yes the door is sectional.

Back when I was pricing my two 10x10 overheads, the price difference between non and insulated, was only $100.00

I was going to use foam board, glued on.
But for the price of the cost difference, insulated doors, with a protective cover over the foam, I couldn't justify doing it.

I have seen several doors insulated with foam board. Just takes time to get it fitted real nice and sealed up

Steve, I glued 1” Styrofoam panels on my old sectional garage doors. It was an improvement but not a big one. Several years later I replaced them with factory insulated doors and the difference was night & day.

If my wife keeps up the pace of backing in to it we may have to replace it. ;)

Then maybe you should use thick rubber insulation, on both sides?!

What about buying/making an insulated blanket that you could cover the entire door with, maby Velcro it to the wall on each side of the door? I am building a shop and am thinking of something to keep it warm in the winter.
