Its listed on Craiglist and all the discription says is it's a 12" Cresent and it has a 3 Phase motor. What HP would this jointer have. The seller is only asking $250 so if it wouldn't dim the lights in my house I could always get a new motor for it..:D

don, that jointer will be direct drive, you`d need a phase converter. if the bearings are good and you like working with a jointer that`s a steal..02 tod

It's a steal at $250. From the photo it appears to be a direct drive model so I would consider a static converter as a cheap way out. You will run at about 2/3 rated HP but in a home shop it will be fine. I would not even consider changing the motor. VFD's don't always work with some of the older motors. It's also ball bearing so that's a plus. The tables slide apart so the machine can easily be broken down and easily put in a basement shop. I've adjusted many a Crescent jointer over the years. Very nice machines. It looks like it's in great shape. Even if the tables needed to be ground I'd buy that machine anytime at that price. I know dealers who could get $2,000 for that machine easily. That machinecame with 3 or 5 HP motors, 3 phase.
