A few days ago I asked your feedback on this form:

This is what I ended up with:

Here is a view of the wilder side:

Do you think I improved it or hurt it? Honest answers only, please!

The wood is a spalted pecan limb wound "scab" heal over(what is it really called?). The finish is 3 coats of Formby's Tung Oil Finish, High Gloss, buffed on the Beal. It is 5 1/2" diameter by 3 1/2" tall.

I know the picture is not the best but I did not have time to set up the photo tent and all. Sorry!

Improvement. The lip is not as steep, the curves more rounded. Also, that pic of the "wild side" is great---the figure there is well set off by the form. Ya done good, Curtis!

I think that both forms look good, that wood is just dazzling!

You certainly did not do anything wrong in my book.

Cheers!

The new version is definitely an improvement in my opinion. The convex shoulder looks better than the flat or concave version to these untrained eyes. Nice job, Curtis.

Good Lord it's hideous!

Just kidding. I think it's definitely much cooler looking than the roughed out form. I really like the scabby.

By the way Curtis, I'm picking up a huge load of mesquite tonight. You've ruined me man, ruined me!

I'm with Tim on this...

It's the most awful thing I've ever seen. To put yourself out of your misery, just send it to me ASAP and I'll dispose of it for ya! :D

I mean what are internet friends for if they can't rip you off?:p

Seriously it looks great! Good form, and good finish.

Keep up the good work!

I like the revised version better. The lip on it looks more in line with the overall design and form. Good job.

Improved. A very nice piece, Curtis.

There is still a bit of a flat area above the waste and below the neck that you might try to play with on the next one. Take some hunks of "whatever" and turn some variations of the form...don't bother to hollow. These should be throw-aways. Paint them flat black, put them on a shelf and look at them. See what "works" and what doesn't. Make some more and include the refinements. Then do another using the best of the best as your guide.

I like both, but I like the final one a bit better, seems more "elegant" to me. Finish does a lot for that wood as well. A "water clear" finish, like water based poly, for instance, wouldn't have looked near as good.
Great job!
