It's not the posting that's tiresome, it's all the hand-sanding: for me, a normal bowl is about 80:20 ratio between turning time and sanding time. These are more like 40:60, and all the sanding has to be done by hand, mostly off-lathe. The buffing step can get a bit interesting as well.


I'm assuming the only way to do the bottom is with a vacuum pump?Nope. Piece of 2" PVC pipe and a pad, with the tailstock supporting for most of it. Once it's running true, I add a couple pieces of duct tape, keeps it on well enough to do the last little nub at the end. Wouldn't want to try that with a big salad bowl, but this thing only weighs a couple ounces.
