Hi have found that the "View New Posts" is a great feature. However, if I click on a post in that list to read it, I then have to go back to the original New Posts listing inorder to get the next new post. If you click on the "Next Thread" on the new post you have just finished reading(before going back to the new post listing), you are sent to the first post in the forum of the post you just finished. Man, I hope this makes sense....

I think(oh no) that it would be helpful to have the "next thread" send you to the next thread in the "View New Posts" listing rather than sending you to the forum.

Do others see this as a problem or needed feature?

Is this an existing feature and I am missing a setting/option in my profile to make it happen?

When you use the View New Posts feature click on the yellow down arrow next to the one you want to read. After reading that one use your browser "back" button and that will take you back to the View New Post listings. After you read them all and go back for the last time, go to the bottom of View New Posts page and click "Mark All Forums Read" and that will clear the list.

You also might try right clicking the arrow & open in a new window. This is what I do.

Thanks for the ideas.

Ken, what you suggest is exactly what I have been doing.

Bart, you idea is an improvement, and I will use it.

As I read through your recommendations, it occured to me that what I would like to see is the "next thread" button to be in the context of the listing you are viewing. Right now when you are in a forum, your context is the forum you are in, and the "next Thread" button works within the context of that forum.

Now let us go to the View New Posts listing, our context is now the listing of new postings, and I suggest that the next thread should be aware of that context and go to the next post in that list.

Yes, you can make an argument for my being lazy and picky, but as my 94 yr old dad says "ask and you will receive." So, I am asking.....;)

I'm guessing that it would be kind of tricky to implement, but Aaron seems like quite a web wizard. It would be VERY convenient to click through all the threads with new posts successively without going back to the thread list each time. I guess I'm lazy too, but every minute not spent catching up on the Creek is a minute spent . . . um . . . doin' somethin' else I guess.

Currently, the 'View new posts' listing is implemented as a logical
extension of the 'Search' feature. This means that when you click
on a post to view it, all context information (from the search) is
lost. In other words, 'Next thread' is the next thread in the forum
that you jumped to, not the next New thread.
I will look into a solution for this, however.

In the meantime, the 'Pond-style overlay I created maintains
the 'View New Posts' within context.

If you're logged in, click here to access it.

Note, as this is still in development, threads you view will not be
marked as read.

Also, if you're using Opera or Internet Explorer browsers, a
quick and easy shortcut for the 'Back' arrow is the Backspace key.
