I bought some hard maple and just noticed that one board has what looks like worm holes all over. I couldn't take a picture to see it up close, but you can see the specs and they do have small holes in the middle. Was the tree infected?

Alex, looks like you got some "birdseye" maple based on what we can see in the pics. Good stuff!!!

That's what my initial thought was as well, but does birdseye maple have tiny holes in the middle?

Most definitely birdseye. Consider it a bonus!

Do you mean there are holes in the little eyes all over the board? Are you sure they are holes...sometimes the wild grain there can trick your eye.

Birdseye maple. And any holes are likely tear out from surfacing. And for reference, birdseye maple is premo stuff...not always easy to come by.

Alex, send that horrible wormy stuff right on out to me in SoCal. The heat and dryness will kill the infestation. You don't want it messing up the rest of your lumber. :D

Kidding aside, you got yourself some nice birdseye maple. To echo the others, it's hard to come by looking that nice, so use it for something special.

So I got myself a board of birdseye maple for the price of hard maple ($7.25/bf) - that's probably what some of you normally pay for birdseye maple.
