Hello,
I was poking around in some old shops the other day and came across an old saw for $2. The handle is of the 'London Pattern' type and on one side the blade is stamped James Carr London with 3 identical marks above this in a triangular pattern (they appear to be: 1') which I think relates to a taxation stamp. On the other side a previous owner has inscribed 'Will Stuart , Woolwich , 1795'. It is very similar to the rip saw in the 'Benjamin Seaton" toolchest referred to by Chris Schwarz in his weblog associated with 'Woodworking Magazine' (woodworking-magazine.com). Does anyone have any links that I could try to get some information on the maker or sawmakers in general (apart from the disston institute) so as to validate that inscription. 'Google-ing' has produced nothing. Thanks for any help in advance. PS Yes Tyler I will post some pictures asap.
