I'm a new ww trying to figure out what type of wood to use for what. Do I use cherry for this or would cedar be better? That kind of thing. Would R. Bruce Hoadley's book "Understanding Wood" help me? All the reviews I've read said it's a must-read for woodworkers and I do plan to get it at some point, but would it answer the basic questions I have about different species of wood? Or is it more of a book that deals with how wood in general behaves?
World Woods in Color by Lincoln looks to be highly regarded as well.
Feedback from anyone who has read the books would be appreciated.
