Quick, easy, and cheap is what I have in mind when it comes to putting a finish on my jigs. What do you use?

The nicer jigs get witches brew. (BLO, Polyurethane, Naphtha) Then a rubbing of paste wax.
The lesser ones get nothing.

Rob,
I use the same exact thing as Andy.

When they're complete I usually drill a hole in them so I can hang them on the wall, then call them finished :D
If one of my jigs has a finish on it, I was either testing a finish for a project or using the jig to prop up a piece during the finishing process.

As a rule, just paste wax

Whichever finish where there isn't enough or is too old to use on a real project. Beats tossing it.

When I make a really nice jig I do the Zinsser. So far, it's unopened. :-)

I've used clear PolyCrylic on a few of my jigs where I wanted to be sure they'd stay stable with humidity changes. (I used the PolyCrylic bacause I had it on hand, it's very tough, and I wouldn't want to use it on one of my "finer" projects.)
Other jigs have been used as a place to wipe off brushes before I clean the brush in solvent. I have a few that have a combination of BLO, shellac (one or two different kinds) wipe-on poly, lacquer or whatever clear finish I was trying to get off the brush. ;)

Whenever I have tail-ends of shellac, varnish, oil or whatever that is destined to be thrown out, I wander around the shop and use it up. If I can't find anything in the shop, wheelbarrow handles, etc. seem always to be in need whenever there is varnish or oil going-a-waste-in. Eventually, it all gets coated.

I always finish my jigs with a test cut. Doesn't everyone? :)
