Very nice. Love the way the grain of the wood goes from very figured to fairly plain. Makes it more interesting. I would love to see pictures of the back and sides, too.

Welcome Horst. I'd comment on the bowl, but for some reason all I'm getting is a big blur. Hmmm.

Horst,
Beautiful bowl! I like lots of things about it, but one of my favorite features is the dark "ring" that you created at the inside edge of the lip. It appears that you used something to "burn" that ring--am I right about that?

Wow! It is at least as pretty on the bottom as on the top. It is actually thicker than I thought from the first picture. And welcome. Can't wait to see more of your turnings.

Hello,
First of all I'd like to thank everybody for the warm welcome to the Creek and the kind words about my bowl.
@ Mark: The dark ring is actually a friction burn. It was achieved with a handful of shavings, when the thought entered my head to try an old "secret" remedy to get a good finish on a piece of wood, i.e. giving it a rub down with a handful of shavings. When I didn't see any effect I gave a bit more pressure and the edge turned black. At first I thought there was some dirt among the shavings, but then I realised what had happened and decided to leave it on.

Horst,
You found a great "new" application for an "old" secret. Beautiful job.
