View Full Version : Squaring a square

A long time ago I read in a woodworking magazine about squaring a framing square. It mentioned using a nail set or some other kind of pointy punch and making an indentation (or 2 or 3) along the line from corner to corner where the two legs meet. IIRC, someone made a reference to this in the General forum as well.

Now...My framing square isn't 90 degrees, according to my 18" Woodpecker Precision Speedsquare. It's ...oh, I don't know...a little off. Say 89 degrees; It's under 90, not over. What I don't remember is where I make the punch marks for an under 90 adjustment....on the inside of the corner or the outside. Any help?

Thanks very much.

Mark,

Use a center punch and strike the inside to open it up to a greater angle. Strike the outside to close the angle.

In your case strike the inside of the angle where the two legs meet.
