I had this Pecan NE just about ready to turn the foot, then I noticed
a little rib inside that I missed so I chucked it back up and.....well
you can see where I came thru the side..   . Any ideas
on a side fix that will look decent?

Mike I doubt that my suggestion is workable but here goes could you possiblly try a color fill ? Looks good except for the blow thru.

Geez Mike, that's a lousy thing to have happen! I suppose you could either part off the bowl, and laminate a contrasting color in there and then reglue...OR...how about opening up the gouge a little bit, and then burning the edges to match the top rim. Then it would like it's supposed to be there. Of course, she won't hold water anymore, but hey, art bowls are useful too!

Another option could be to mix some stone powder in with epoxy and fill it in, maybe turquoise or some other color for a bit of flash, or perhaps coffee grounds and epoxy. Lots of ways to go about it. Depends on the look you want.

Mike

Here is just a an idea I had. If you have an indexing head you could drill or route holes on a fixed distance. Drill out the hole with a forstner bit so it is clean just bigger than the gouge hole. Align the hole with the top of the lathe so your first hole takes out the gouge hole. After you have your holes done fill them with a dowel of contrasting color and then turn it back smooth.

Hope that helps.

Carve out an "inclusion" and make it look natural. 'Bout the only thing I can think of quickly...

Oh, Mike, that is too bad. I don't have a fix for you. I nail mine to the rafters as reminders....It was looking great...Maybe no one will notice....:D

Mike, I agree with Jim about carving an irregular hole.

Great piece Mike. :) You have created a great "design opportunity". I'd go with the cut it out and burn it idea.

Since I'm not much of a caver I will try burning a hole in it with
a wood burning tool.....Poof!...big pile of ashes!...I'll try this
weekend. Got plenty more pecan incase it goes south on me...

Call it an artistic achievement at turning the inside diameter larger than the outside diameter and double the price. ;)

With proper application of advanced mathematics, and a little help from non-euclidian geometry, such should be possible. :)
