I'm a guitar player, as I know many of you are. I'm thinking about building a road case for my amp. Something along the lines of the attached photo. The woodworking isn't a problem, but I'm wondering about sources for the hardware. Specifically, the aluminum extrusions at the joint where the two parts of the case meet.

Do any of you know of any sources for this stuff?

Lee Valley sells Trunk Corners

Are those heavy duty enough?

Art/Jamie, I think he's looking for the tongue-and-groove things that seal the the joint between the top and bottom.

Might check Howe Industries in Sanford, Fl. They make cases like that.

I used to build cases a few years ago. Try phoning 678.366.3220 its for a company called Southco. They make all that kind of stuff and they can tell you where to get it locally. They are a wholesaler and probably still have a fairly large minimum order. The phone # is for the local rep. or you could try info@southco dot com

http://www.penn-elcom.com/ has the stuff you're looking for. Look under "flight case and cabinet hardware". It isn't clear from the web site how to purchase it. Call 'em to find out.

These are the guys Anvil used to use before they had their own branded hardware made. I don't think they get into the channel stuff but I have cases that I made in the late '70s that are still in service using their twist latches, etc. Tough stuff.

Jamie is the winner so far. I've e-mailed them to see if they sell in small quantities, or if there is a local source for small quantities.

Southco and Brunner don't list the extrusions on their web sites. But thanks for the tips, Mike and Ted!

Hi there,

Could also try a company called Nielsen Sessions on: http://www.casehardware.com/

Thanks, Aunty. I found them the other day, but they don't carry the extrusions. They have everything else, though!

Not sure but I think Anvil is the only one that uses those:confused: .
My Armadilo rack just fits wood to wood (7 layer BB ply) and the case I made is hard board sides are nested by the square alum. corners.
Going on 20 years and no failures yet.

Anvil and all the imitators that have sprung up over the years!

Do you have any pics of your rack? Getting a secure fit between the two parts of the case is my biggest concern. I've toyed with the idea of using different size aluminum "U" channels, so that one would fit inside the other, but haven't gone shopping to see what I can find.

If you haven't found the hardware you need yet, try TCH Hardware-http://www.tchweb.com. They have everything for road cases- panels, hardware, and the extrusions you are looking for.
