Lee, for someone who just started, you seem to really have a talent for new and attractive pieces. That looks nice.

Cool! Sort of a 'Chang and Eng' thing. How'd you do it?

Cool! Sort of a 'Chang and Eng' thing. How'd you do it?Put a piece of 8/4 walnut on top of a piece of 8/4 cherry with double-stick tape, bandsawed the sandwich, and epoxied the pieces together...and yes, that means I've still got another (mirror-image) blank. (The cherry was originally a little wider than the walnut, so some of it got glued on the opposite edge, seemed like a good idea at the time.)

Hey Lee...........Now who's setting a torrid pace? Great bowl my friend! YOU have come a long ways in a short period of time!

Too bad you didn't have enough of one kind of wood to make a whole bowl. Good job on cobbling the pieces together, though. :p

Seriously, that's a great piece, Lee. I've done similar glue-ups for other projects, and I know it's harder than it looks. Are you going to turn an exact match, or try a different shape with the remaining half?

Also, I agree with Ken...slow down dude, you're making the rest of us newbs look bad. (Not as if that's too tough to do in my case.) ;)

Are you going to turn an exact match, or try a different shape with the remaining half?It would be a lot easier if I could con you into sending me any cutting board planks you're not happy with so I could make bowls or platters out of them.:D :D

The second one is somewhat different in that, due to a bit of a brain-fart during the initial cutting, the "extra" piece of cherry on the side is wider. So the "mirror-image" bowl will be about an inch bigger overall.

In any case, I don't do "sets", so I'll probably do a different profile on it anyway.

Thanks for the kind words, all.

I understand. I have a hard enough time making one of something, let alone two. :D
