I have been working on this piece for quite a long time. I have had alot of distractions over the last few months, and have not had time to get back in the ol shop to get this done! Well..its done! Made of cherry, the drawer sides are maple and poplar webframes inside. 50" tall, 15"wide 14"deep. There are 139 dovetails on the piece. I used T and T and spar varnish mix. I am very happy how the finish came out. I turned the knobs myself, getting larger as the the drawers get larger. Finshed back, so it can be free standing as well. This piece will go to my daughter. This chest has been one heck of alot of work, but alot of fun. I may be building more of these! Thanks for looking!

Beautiful Michael! Can you show any closer photos of the drawer faces to show off the grain and joinery? It's the birth of a family heirloom!

Excellent job, Michael. I like the natural cherry color, and as it darkens over time it'll only look more rich. I'm guessing you got the dovetail cutting process down to a science by the time you got done with this chest.

Very Nice! I've built a couple of these and admire the design a lot. I would suggest we thank Chris Becksvoort for his design.

Very nice!

What method did you use to cut the dovetails? Just wondering because 1. there are a lot of them and 2. the side is very tall for a jig.

How about the sliding dovetails?

It looks great!

Very, very nice Michael! Your daughter will love it! I hope you autographed and dated it! It is a family heirloom, even now!

Michael, that's a whole lot of dovetails! Beautiful work, I'd love to see it again in a few years, after the cherry turns!

Michael...

I think Chris says that his has 140 dovetails. Yours has 139! What happened? Did you lose one?

Seriously, beautiful work. You should be justifiably proud.

If I ever get the time, this is on my long list of projects....

Did you hide a silver dollar in it?

Frankie, I use the Leigh system to cut all dovetails, half, through, and sliding. And Martin, I believe Chris has around 190 dovetails! Handcut.
