Well here we go :-)

New discussion... Where can I find clipart that is basically "laser ready" looking for suggestions of things that the retail community finds useful and things that just make good projects... Of course I am not so proud as to look a gift horse in the mouth :-) LOL

Just curious on where I can get the good stuff!!!!

I am breaking this discussion out at the suggestion of our wonderful host :-)

Brent,

If the artwork is vector art you can import it into Corel and go. If the artwork is a bitmap then there might be a considerable amount of work to be done before you can send it to your engraver. If the size of the graphic fits your project then bitmaps can be imported and used as is or with very little prep work. If your bitmap needs major editing or needs to be increased in size the job can be time consuming.

As I'm not as talented as many of our other engravers here I will allow them to chime in with their opinions concerning manipulation of bitmaps and photo editing or possibly this topic might be better off in a new thread since it is such a complex issue. If your not an artist you can purchase great art work and produce stunning work. The Dover CD's are a source of some very nice engraving art, I have found their books at my local Barnes and Noble Bookstores and I use them often. I also own the Vector Art CD#1 and the Tattoo Art CD's that J.D. Crowe has on his web site. Over the years I have put together a nice library of artwork.

You can't get more "Laser Ready" than Laser Buzz (http://www.laser-buzz.com/)
He's the one that posted the F-15 recently.

Some of the downloadable PDF files from Berry Basket (http://www.berrybasket.com/) are less work to get laserable than bmp's.

There are some smaples from epilog laser (http://www.epiloglaser.com/sample_club.htm).

I've found that decent clipart on CD or online can be expensive, but you can buy great books of black and white royalty free clipart to scan at the bigger bookstores, often used for $1-2. Scanning is easy and fast. I've bought most of mine from Powell Books in Portland, if you are ever in that area go there, it's got to be one of the best bookstores in the country.
Well worth the 3 hour trip from here, especially when combined with a
stop at my favorite stained glass supply, my wife's favorite fabric store, and Carl's Jr. for lunch.
