Thanks for all the advice on these handrails. They are outside of the real estate office I work in.

I made these rails out of 8/4 oak from Groff and Groff in PA.
I used Cabot Austrailian Timber oil from BORG for the finish.
It was cool that my boss hired a contractor to do the handrails and he hired me to do them.

These are up to code now with the proper length..:)

Is that red or white oak?

It's white oak.

8/4 is neat stuff. It makes you think about building BIGGER STUFF.

Nice wood but doesn't code require that handrails extend 12 inches from the step toe at both the top and bottem of a stair? Maybe that's for a longer flight.

Only 2" for residential in CT. I think you're right for commercial jobs though. Can't remember those days anymore.
