I recently finished a 7 drawer dresser I built for our son. Woods featured are quarter sawn white oak & African mahogany. This piece is inspired by a commercial design and complements the changing table I built several months ago. The case consists of flame mahogany veneered side panels set in a 1/2" tongue & groove frame. Each drawer compartment is separated by dust frames set in dado's. The face frame is 3/4" but flairs out to 6/4 at the foot for added strength.

The back is a presentable frame & panel construction with maple ply and branded with my signature stamp.

I spent just a little time on the drawer faces with the elliptical recess, inlaid pulls and inlay border. The drawer boxes are maple ply and ride on full extension accuride slides. These pulls are my new version and solution the the changing table pulls I wasn't happy with.

Very nice work, Dewayne. The details on the drawers are sweet, and the wood combination looks great to me.

Awesome piece!

The flame mahogany panels are really, really interesting in the way that they build in color top to bottom. Is the other side similar in that respect??

Nice looking dresser - I too really like the drawer fronts. Could you post how you made the ovals and rectangular inlays?

WOW! Today I start a cabinet class a Woodcraft in my education of woodworking. Someday I hope to build something as great as the dresser you have posted here. Your piece is an inspiration to me.

Very interesting and different design. Love the overall looks and the way the oak and mahogany go together. The drawers are really neat. Only thing I would change is the arrangement of the different size panels on the side. I would either go large, medium, small from bottom to top or large, small, medium. Otherwise wouldn't change a thing.

The elliptical recess is formed by shaping a template and using a combination of bits and bushings. First a straight bit to plow out the material, then a bull nose bit with a smaller bushing to cove the perimeter. I ganged the pulls together in a long strip of 5 and did all the router work before cutting them loose. A 1/2" wide channel is routed with a edge guide to inlay the pull.

Before cutting my project wood I made a mdf mock-up.
