Hi all,

While I'm waiting for my neck to recooperate, I need to locate a supplier for a 1" hook and loop mandrel, for sanding,& cleaning up the nib on the bottom of bowls. I've got 2", & 3" ones already. Where's the best place to get one?

Thanks,
W.C.

I got the 1" hook and loop that I put in my drill press for the bottoms of bowls from Packard Woodworks.

Like Bernie mentions...Packard is a good source for a lot of things. Nice people to do business with.

That said, with practice (and the right tools) you should be able to transition your work such that you don't leave any raised nib. A side grind gouge (such as the Ellsworth grind or similar) used effectively will cut to the center and not leave any raised area. (a regular bowl gouge is harder to do this) It's largely a matter of practice. Alternatively, some folks are more comfortable cleaning things up with a heavy bowl scraper using very light cuts. (Scrapers cut...the edge is just very small)
