This is just a simple table with really pretty wood I had left over from another project. Can't remember the dye used (alcohol based Solar Lux, I think). Saturated with tung oil-dryed, Rubbed on cple coats of poly-varnish (sand and tack between)then rubbed out with #7 auto polishing compound. I'm not a poly fan but needed a hard finish for dishes, etc.(it's in our dining room). Turned the legs from other hard wood but not tiger maple. I'm not a very good turner (don't look too close).

Love the finish, it retains the figure of the tiger maple while 'calming' it enough to let the boards fit together. Hard to do!

Beautiful piece, Jim! Great color and design. The figure is beautiful!

BTW, polyurethane resin varnish's slight "advantage" relative to abrasion and heat resistance comes at the expense of being softer than alkyd or phenolic resin varnishes. It can be a good choice when those attributes are important.

Thank you. I've been looking around here and recognize all the skill, talent and friendship. You all are a courteous, fine bunch of folks. I also see I can learn a lot--and that's what I'll be doing for a while. May not be posting my stuff so much as looking at all your good projects, ideas and finds. Will post remarks on great work when I see it though---can't help that!! Thanks again. Jim

Now just hold on a minute there Gus. Do you mean to tell us that that table was made from wood just "lying 'round" the shop? and that the finish came out of a jar that you're not sure of the actual contents? that was also lying about. I ain't buyin' it a bit. We won't even get into the legs.;) ;) :D

Nice work Jim, very elegant. If that is an example of your ability to just piece together a piece from leftovers. I'm really looking forward to seeing the planned out work you have done. I think we're all going to learn from you.

Very nice work, once again.

You sound as though you just tossed it together out of some old scraps you had lying around. Man, I'd love to make something that nice with my best effort. Great job and a beautiful result.
