I have a large box elder that I am thinking of dry kilning for some furniture peice. Can anyone give me heads up on any pitfalls besides being so soft.
My wife likes the color.

The red color in box elder will fade in time.

Box elder tends to a lot of shake and can be brittle. As Joe mentions, the color will fade over time. I think it would be great as an accent piece, such as for panels, but I wouldn't necessarily suggest it for general furniture construction. This member of the Maple family is not a great choice for that. Now....turners will almost kill for really great box elder!

I have cut a few Box Elder on my Mill and this one 4' across has a lot of the deepest blood Red that I have ever seen.

If you do any turning, it makes beautiful bowls. The fading part is correct but it is still beautiful.
